History
The Dutch name "In de Rechte Straat" (IRS) means "In the street called Straight". This name is derived from Acts chapter, where the Apostle Paul meets Christ, after which he stayed in Damascus in the street called Straight (Acts 9:11).
The name can also be understood as the "right way" one
should go.
IRS was founded in 1960 by the late priest Herman J. Hegger, who made himself a name by his autobiography "My way to the Light".
Right from the start the institution focused on Roman Catholic clerics, whose consciences pricked them when they came to understand the central message of the gospel. In the course of the years, thanks to the IRS, more than sixty priests received pastoral care, temporal lodging, cost of living, an allowance for study and a prospect for the future. |
